fenu - hell yeah. someday we shall go exploring together and overcome our fears with two-person=exponential courage magic.

lauren - thanks for another comment that makes me all grinny. of course what your website tells me you said about this website on twitter had me grinny enough already. so thanks for commenting.

oh and there are heaps of crack heads in germany, but i'm not really sure where they congregate. in frankfurt a plenty. there i've seen soccer moms preparing their pipes on benched in front of the stock market (where we used to play bike polo). i have yet to run into any junkers in abandoned buildings though, luckily. though there are often signs of tenants they always seem to be long-gone by the time i come around. i love finding the remnants of lives there, though its maybe one of the creepiest, "there's someone standing right behind you" feelings, every time.

So sick. I love poking around/trespassing in abandoned buildings. Better with a friend, cause it gets a little spooky (and by spooky, I mean vampiric crackheads lurking in the shadows--are there crackheads in East Germany?)

Another great post. So stoked to find a blog about cool, non-commercial shit that I'm into. They're pretty rare, you know?

What a neat trip report! I love to look at the remnant evidence of craft in old buildings, ruins, or even caves: the way two pieces of wood are joined, or the intricate plasterwork that some places have. It's a drag to realize that the beauty of many ruins is the product of slaves, but fine work stands on it's own merits, forced or not. I had a similar frightful/flightful reaction to a solo exploration of a 19th century cemetery one moonless midnight in Mississippi...clanking chains and screams made me run and fall in the mud...very messy van that night.
