Reminds me of when I hitched to Amsterdam as a student… except my lifts included a Dutch company director, a film maker whose hobby was canoeing and a professional drug dealer.

(BTW – as your book grows, you might want to showcase a few chapters on Authonomy. Google it. It’s Harper Collins’ latest idea for picking up new writing talent… and some of the other major publishers are also having a peek there too…so they claim…)

We who are older and wiser recoil at the thought of our own children doing what we once did.

Always found hitch-hiking to be so much easier in Canada. In Europe I’d never get picked up. My record is eight hours on the Spanish/French border before giving up and taking the train, followed by six hours near Haifa, Israel trying to get to Jerusalem to save five measly bucks I ended up spending on the bus anyway.

Congratulation to your 1st alone-hitch-hiking-trip!!! Sounds so familiar to me…
Our (gesa&me) 2 weeks hitch-hiking trip trough Romania in September was sooo cool! The guy who showed us his German prison release paper. The 2 boys who guided us through a wooden monastery. The French couple, where the guy studied the same as I did at the same uni in Denmark just a year before…
I love hitch-hiking.

Oh, meine schwester. “Those people his mother tells him to stay away from.” Wir haben hausbesetzer in Klasse diskutieren. Ich lachte- oh, fuck it, I’m shitty at this language. And then he made me explain it in German, and I was picturing the student who stayed in that ugly dorm across from you coming back and telling everyone how noisy you all were. HA.
