There were violent protests in the mid-70s in Japan as they were planning the Narita airport. Now nobody remembers them and it’s just another skipping point on the global aviation infrastructure. This is what my old man used to call progress – and when it stunk like rotten eggs from the pulp mill across the water, it was the smell of money.
Good luck to the protesters. Didn’t help much here in Hamburg, though, when it came time to extend the Airbus factory runway. Still unknown whether it will even be needed, but then again, it’s protecting “Standord Hamburg” whatever the hell that means.
